Following discussions during the 2008 AGM in New Zealand, it was agreed that the RS:X Youth Championships do not have to strictly follow the Olympic format used by the ’senior’ fleets
In view of the fact that the ISAF seem keen to ensure that the Youth Olympics also has a different current format than that used at the Olympic Regatta and knowing that the OR format has been around in its current form for more or less 20 years and you get the idea that it may be possible for us to agree on a new format for the RS:X Youth Championships.
This may not be evident at the upcoming Youth Europeans in Mondello, Sicily but I urge anyone interested in the development of Youth racing to put their thinking caps on and come up with some ideas.
To start with, send your ideas to me at rory.ramsden@btopenworld.com and/or post them on the forum page on www.rsxclass.com for everyone to see and comment on. Don’t be shy! The more ideas we get the better.
Your ideas could involve a number of groups in each fleet ; a different scoring method; short course racing and any other ideas that you may have tried on your local piece of water that you think are worthy of wider recognition.
We are keen to innovate. Your ideas are important. Let’s work together to come up with something new and exciting!
