HRH Crown Prince Frederik honours the 2010 RS:X World Championships with a visit

For quite some time we have been working hard on the staging of this major championship in the prestigious Olympic windsurfing RS:X class. By attending our event, Crown Prince Frederik's implicitly supports Danish sport and the 2010 RS:X World Championships and we are pleased to welcome him to Kerteminde," says Race Director Flemming Kold from Sail Event Kerteminde Sejlklub.

HRH Crown Prince Frederik is visiting the 2010 RS:X World Championships on 3 September, at a time when 200 windsurfers from more than 40 nations will be competing hard for a place in the final medal races. The Danish Crown Prince will among other things attending the award ceremony.

Flemming Kold continues: "We are very much looking forward to showing our way of staging the RS:X Worlds and to deliver a quality event". The local organising club, Sail Event Kerteminde Sejlklub, has teamed up with Sport Event Denmark and Sport Event Fyn in the preparation and staging process of this major event and all three parties have joined forces to deliver a memorable event” 

HRH Crown Prince Frederik's passion sailing is well known. He is an active sailor himself, a member of ISAF's (International Sailing Federation) Events Committee and also a member of the International Olympic Committee, IOC. 

Mike Dempsey, President of the RS:X Class said on hearing the news “We are extremely happy that HRH Crown Prince Frederik will honour us with his visit. It is great that he will be with us just as the 2010 RS:X World Championships reaches its climax”

The 2010 RS:X World Championships is just one of many major international sailing events in Denmark in recent years. This summer, Denmark has hosted several major sailing events such as the SAP 505 World Championship and this autumn Denmarks is staging the Kia PWA Cold Hawaii World Cup. Also, Denmark is bidding for the ISAF Sailing World Championship 2014, which is the World Championship for all Olympic boat classes and furthermore the most important qualification event for the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio. Denmark's official bid for the ISAF Sailing World Championship 2014 is handed in this autumn.

Event facts:
The 2010 RS:X World Windsurfing Championships is taking place  between 27  Aug and  5 Sept.  Sail Event Kerteminde is the local organiser and they have teamed up with the City of Kerteminde, Sport Event Fyn and Sport Event Denmark to ensure that both participants, officials and the spectators get a memorable time in Kerteminde.
