RS:X Worlds: Anthropometric Test Results

E-mail Print PDF

rsxembossedThe wind may have been howling and the racing cancelled but in the
background there was some important anthropometric checking going
on. Thanks to Carmen Vaz who used to sail the Mistral One Design at
high level, we now have important data on male and female athlete's
racing in the 2012 RS:X World Windsurfing Championships.

I will not try and interpret these for you but...

The top women, in both the 2011 and the 2012 RS:X World Windsurfing Championships (Perth & Cadiz):

  • Weigh more but have less skin fold (less body fat)
  • Are taller with bigger bones
  • Have a 'span' which is nearly 5cms longer than the average
  • Are stronger with a higher percentage of muscle in both the upper and lower limb

The top men are distinct from the those racing in the silver fleet in the following ways:

  • They are heavier with less body fat
  • They are taller
  • They have a greater span
  • And they are stronger in both the upper and lower limb

Whilst your physical characteristics may match a top sailor that is no guarrantee of success. Experience, mental attitude and technique all have their part to play

NB... Please note that individual metrics are being mailed one by one to those who took part. If you haven't received yours yet, please be patient, it'll be with you asap
