At the end of race day Day 5 at the Semaine Olympique Francaise, it seems like the names of the winners in the RS:X windsurfing men and women's fleets are a done deal. Both have comfortable points advantages so barring natural disasters Bryony Shaw [GBR] and Byron Kokalanis [GRE] should both standing on the top step of the podium on Friday night.
And the secret?
A consistent set of single figure results. In fact these two are the only ones to have achieved this in this light wind regatta. Some very respected names have fallen by the way side by putting in a poor result or even two.
That leaves windsurfer Blanca Manchon [ESP] defending a three point advantage to retain her second place from being grabbed by Laura Linares [ITA] in the RS:X women's fleet. Actually, she will also have an eye on Eugenie Ricard [FRA] two points back. So the fight goes on for the minor places both here and over in the RS:X men's fleet too.
Although this is an entirely less stressful contest. Piotr Myszka [POL] is in a fairly comfortable second place being 10 points in front of King Yin Chan [HKG] so the only doubt to remain is whether Ivan Pastor [ESP] can make up the deficit of 4 points he has to snatch 3rd place at the last. This is entirely doable knowing that the medal races count for double points so its not quote a procession to the podium yet.
