Almost 100 windsurfers from RS:X, Techno and Mistral classes has gathered in Stanley Main Beach, Hong Kong to take part in the 2013 Asian Windsurfing Championships, certainly one of the most prestigious windsurfing events in the region of Asia. Important officials from government sports departments and funding agencies honoured the opening ceremony showing its support for the Championships.
The event's started today with 3 races sailed in a gusty wind. The challenging conditions favoured sailors from Hong Kong who sailed most consistently and lead in all RS:X divisions. Cheng Chun Leung Michel (HKG16) after scoring 3,1 and 2 is at the top of men' classification with a 2 points lead. Wonwoo Cho (KOR 141) despite of wining two races is taking 2nd place with only 1 point advantage over Leung Ho Tsun Andy (HKG 2) who is ranked 3rd.
In women Chan Hei Man Hayley Victoria (HKG 5) won two first races and scored 2nd in the 3rd, which gave her a strong 6 points lead over her compatriot Lo Sin Lam Sonia (HKG 28). Third place takes Yuki Sunaga (JPN 470) but the points till 8th place are tight so the battle for the podium will certainly be fierce.
In youth divisions the points in the top 3 are very thigh with Ng Ho Yin (HKG 22) and Ngai Wai Yan (HKG 30) leading in youth men and youth women respectively.
The races will last until Sunday with a Closing Ceremony scheduled for Monday evening.
