Alessandra Sensini Takes The Lead


kerteminde_logoShowing that experience pays in this class, so today veteran windsurfer and quadruple Olympic medallist Alessandra Sensini from Italy pulled into the lead at the RS:X World Championships, being held at Kerteminde, Denmark.

 

Following Wednesday’s layday, today was the first of the second round/final series with racing getting underway on time at 1100 local for the Men and Women’s Gold fleets in good breeze and sun, following a windless, overcast start to the morning.

RS:X Class – Happy To Be in Denmark

kerteminde_logoIt may be layday at the RS:X World Championships in Kerteminde , Denmark , but ashore various groups have been active, busily ironing out issues such as the future of the class, in meetings culminating in tonight’s AGM.

One issue under discuss is the calendar including the World Championships in 2012. “We ask people to bid to hold a championship,” says Mike Dempsey of how this process takes place. Dempsey is President of the RS:X Windsurfing Class and also father of Nick, the Athens silver medallist and defending RS:X World Champion.

Champagne conditions at the RS:X Worlds in Kerteminde

kerteminde_logoIn stark contrast to yesterday’s marginal winds, so conditions came alive on the Bay of Kerteminde , Denmark , for day two of the RS:X World Championships with 20 knot winds and brilliant sunshine.

Unable to compete yesterday due to the light winds, the Women’s class got two races in to start with in 18 knot northeasterly winds, gusting to over 20 knots. After two races, Chinese sailors held three places in the top five, with Sasa Sun tied in first place with Ukraine ’s Olga Maslivets, both on three points.

HRH Crown Prince Frederik honours the 2010 RS:X World Championships with a visit

kerteminde_logo"We are extremely proud that HRH Crown Prince Frederik honours the 2010 RS:X World Championships  in Kerteminde with a visit. For quite some time we have been working hard on the staging of this major championship in the prestigious Olympic windsurfing RS:X class. By attending our event, Crown Prince Frederik's implicitly supports Danish sport and the 2010 RS:X World Championships and we are pleased to welcome him to Kerteminde," says Race Director Flemming Kold from Sail Event Kerteminde Sejlklub.

HRH Crown Prince Frederik is visiting the 2010 RS:X World Championships on 3 September, at a time when 200 windsurfers from more than 40 nations will be competing hard for a place in the final medal races. The Danish Crown Prince will among other things attending the award ceremony.

Joao and Ricardo LIVE on Tuesday

The third closed-door LIVE Q&A TeleSeries Session, this time with Joao Rodrigues [POR]  and Ricardo Santos [BRA] is scheduled to take place on Tuesday August 24th at 7.00PM GMT

img_5497JOAO RODRIGUES [POR] is a multiple European Champion and  World Champion in Olympic Windsurfing. He won his first World Championship way back in 1995 and yet only 2 weeks ago won Skandia Sail For Gold on the 2012 Olympic Venue

bimba2RICARDO SANTOS [BRA] won the 2007 RS:X World Championships and finished 4th at the 2004 Olympic Regatta. He is probably one of the two The best windsurf  racers that have ever come out of South America. Bimba, as he is known by his buddies, has unfinished business in the world of elite windsurfing.
