With the 2012 Olympics slated for its own backyard in Weymouth, Skandia Team GBR has has a burning desire to build on its formidable reputation as the global powerhouse of Olympic sailing. We Brits have been brought up on a sequence of success stories. Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Quingdao 2008, Skandia Team GBR ramped up their success at each Olympic Regatta. The world’s best Olympic and Paralympic sailors are counting down the days to US SAILING’s 2010 Rolex Miami OCR. This is the second of seven stops on the ISAF Sailing World Cup. For the USA, Miami will showcase for the major talents looking to represent the nation at the 2012 Olympic/Paralympic Games in Weymouth, England. It is also a qualifier for a spot on the US National Olympic sailing Team.
The 2010 RS:X North American Championships were organized by "Shake-a-Leg", an active sailing club dedicated to disabled people, that is located in Coconut Grove/Miami. 14 RSX men and 5 RSX women from 7 different countries were fighting in a good spirit on Miami water.
The Qualification System for nations wishing to compete in the ISAF World Sailing Championships in Perth, Western Australia has just been published. The Championships incorporates the World Championships of all the Olympic Classe.
Eleven youth sailors have qualified for US Sailing's 2010 Youth World Team, and will receive invitations to represent the United States at the 40th Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship in Istanbul, Turkey, from July 8-17, 2010.
