RS:X Asian Windsurfing Championships: Day 2 - It's a Blowout !
Today Penghu showed its true colours. 40 knots gusting to 47 . The race officer, Stephen Lam [HKG], asked the locals for advice. He wanted to know if the wind would ease during the day! He pretty quickly decided to hoist the AP over A [No Racing] and took to the water himself with 3.5 on the 74l board. He was found in the bar later reminiscing about those days years ago when he frequented Penghu for the strong winds.
Several sailors and coaches hit the water on rental gear supplied by Alex Mowday ( the local organiser) and were amazed by the steadiness of the strong winds and also the stability and ease of use of the new gear. Hong Kong head coach Rene Appel also enjoyed a late afternoon session. The 106kg SIngapore Coach and Finn Sailor, Anthony, was completely wound up on a 4.5m ! ;-)
I "think" everyone is hoping for a decrease in wind tomorrow so that we can get back to the racing
