Shahar Zubari (ISR11) is determined to take gold on his home waters. He is already a celebrity after winning the bronze medal in Beijing. Cameras are attracted to him like bees to honey so winning here will only add to his appeal. Just remember that Israel have only ever won 6 Olympic Medals. Three of those have been in windsurfing.
The holder of two, Gal Fridman (1996 Atlanta - Bronze and 2004 Athens - Gold) has paid us a visit and may well be back for more. He is playing his cards close to his chest but we will know more in Weymouth for the RS:X World Championships in September.
Meanwhile Julien Bontemps (FRA6 - Silver in Beijing) is seven points adrift in second with Joao Rodrigues (POR75) in third a further nine points back.
The battle for the podium will realy be joined on Thursday. The Forecast is for more of the same. Light to moderate sea breeze which are the conditions that Shahar excels in. He is a cool customer and rarely gets excited. All those around him may be feeling the pressure but he will surely take it all in his stride.
