Blanca Manchon (ESP) tightened her grip on the top spot in the RS:X Class Women's Fleet by posting two bullets. Marina Alabau (ESP) can only be said to be fading. Now 10 points adrift in second and with the worst race result of her regatta in race 8, things don't look set for a major upset in the medal race.
Bryony Shaw (GBR) on the other hand is getting into a groove. Two 3rd places today mean that she is now a firm 4th overall and no doubt planning how she is going to upset Flavia Tartaglini (ITA) 9 points in front in third. A good cushion you might say but Flavia put in a 'horrible' 18th place finish in the first race of the day so beating her by 5 places in the medal race is a possibility.
For me, the big break-through of the regatta is Moana Delle (GER) who has raced consistently to hang onto 5th place overall. Now just one point ahead of Marine Rambaud (FRA) it will be interesting to see how she holds up under medal race pressure. Whatever the outcome, she has laid down her marker and may even have given Sydney Silver Medallist Amelie Lux (GER) some pause for thought.
Amelie will be starting to make her come-back at the RS:X European Championship in Tel Aviv, Israel in June. Getting back up to her race honed best may take some time but Moana will ber there or there-abouts when she does. The battle that ensues will sharpen both women and lead to a strong challenge in 2012. Its looking good for Germany again.
