The Delta Lloyd Regatta have rejected the contract offered to
them by ISAF and will therefore not be part of the Sailing World Cup.
is that they would have to surrender all of their media rights and therefore
walk away from their existing sponsor Delta Lloyd.
The Chairman of the organizing committee, Arjen Rahusen commented: “As an organisation we have tried everything to conform to the wishes and obligations of the ISAF. We strongly believe in a uniform World Cup sailing format to propel international sailing to a higher level. We are also of the opinion that this is a process which takes several years. When an event has to transfer almost all rights in one transaction without any room for negotiation, you reach a point where it does not make sense to proceed and it would be financially irresponsible to do so. We also believe that outside the ISAF Sailing World Cup we will be able to deliver an perhaps even better and more innovative event. We will have more freedom specifically in areas that will allow us to be more innovative. The ability to offer prize money in the future should also guarantee a strong field of participants. In addition, a new strong European sailing circuit with Kiel, Weymouth, Barcelona and Aahrus is a serious consideration.”
