Sad but true! The RS:X class fixed its dates for its 2009 European Championships a long time ago as being June 11>20. Kieler Woche have since moved their dates back so that the registration day for Olympic Classes is June 18th.
We have met with the organisers and tried to resolve the clash of dates. Sadly there has been no way to solve the problem on either side.
From our point of view and if we had been prepared to move the Europeans back one week, the idea of asking competitors to race at the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Holland finishing on May 31st then travel to Israel for the EC starting 5 days later and finishing just 3 days before Kieler Woche opened their doors is just not practical.
It was tight to start with but taking one week out of the equation made the three regattas just too close together to contemplate.
It would have meant that racers would have potentially had to do two ISAF Sailing World Cup Events and the second biggest RS:X Class championship on the calendar all within the space of one month.
Whilst the need to produce a unified calendar with no dates overlapping may have been satisfied by the move, those contemplating such a schedule would not have been able to give of their best either in Holland, Isreal or Germany.
So there it is. The dates clash. Racers will now have to decide which two events they compete in and not be tempted to try the impossible 3!
